La Santana - named after Deb's daughter, Santana

Santana was born weighing just 1 lb five years ago today. A month before her arrival, a doctor recommended I terminate my pregnancy. The weeks leading up to her birth, and the months following spent in the NICU, are etched forever in my memory. Our days began at 4 am and often ended late into the night. Commuting to the city to visit her before work and returning to her side after a long day became routine. It was during this time that my love for black coffee started; simplicity was a necessity in those hectic days, and a quick fix of caffeine became a lifeline. Meanwhile, Santana was also having her daily caffeine doses to keep her breathing under control.

When Santana was 3, we moved to Puerto Rico. The time there was an unforgettable experience. As my daughter explored the island, I couldn’t help but reminisce about my own childhood, particularly the moments spent sipping coffee with my grandparents.

When Isabelle and I started Cafecito Debelles Roastery, we wanted every piece of our company to resonate with our personal stories. Our “La Santana” roast—reminiscent of my daughter—is a testament to her resilience: dark, bold, with a hint of berry-like sweetness.”

As you drink your coffee today, help us wish Santana a very happy birthday! 🎈🎉
